Warrior Sports is a Boston US, based company, which I should image were handed the deal on account of the new American owner. Warrior Sports have entered into a contract with Liverpool FC of £25 Million a year kit deal.
A particularly touching addition to the new kit is, on the back of the shirt, just around the neck collar, a 96 has been added with the Hillsborough flames on either side of the 96. (6 obviously representing the year of the tragic disaster where so many Liverpool fans lost their lives and a club family lost family members.
Family members of the individuals who lost their lives, where a little bit angry with the launch as they were hoping for HJC (Hillsborough Justice Campaign) to be displayed on the new kit. However for me, although the families have never been given the correct justice about what happened on that day, I think the club was right not to add these initials, purely on the bases of a football club bringing politics onto the strip. If however I thought for a single second that adding HJC to the kit, would actually bring justice to the families, I would be right behind the idea, unfortunately I can't see this having an influence.
On a slightly lighter note, the new kit has gone back to a more retro appearance, with a simple motif of the Liver Bird on the breast, very reminiscent of the success Liverpool lathered in during the 70's and 80's. Hopefully this will turn out to be a good omen and will bring those glory days back to the Liverpool fans, who have been unjustly starved of success.
Mind you Liverpool fans should take a massive deep breath and sigh of relief as the rumours circulating regarding the 3rd strip was pretty hideous. Lets thank our lucky stars that it was just a hoax.
